1. Trading back to No. 32 in the first round with the Detroit Lions was a disaster

Of the many questionable moves made by teams during day one of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Vikings’ decision to trade down from No. 12 to No. 32 with the division rival Detroit Lions has to be right up there. Trading with a divisional rival is always a scrutinized endeavor, but to be the reason why Detroit landed former Alabama and Ohio State star Jameson Williams is so, so bad.

Not to say he will be the next Calvin Johnson in the Motor City, but this guy has the chance to be the real deal for Detroit. Had he not gotten hurt during the College Football Playoff, Williams may have been the first wide receiver taken. In essence, the Vikings seemed to be more than willing to let a divisional foe get its second elite prospect a full 20 picks before they were finally on the clock.

And it gets worse, too…

Even though taking Lewis Cine with the No. 32 overall pick out of Georgia was solid, Minnesota then traded the No. 34 overall pick to the Green Bay Packers. This bitter division rival who the Vikings need to beat to win the NFC North took another talented wide receiver in Christian Watson out of North Dakota State. They allowed the Packers to pick up almost a first-rounder in Watson.

Vikings fans should hope Kwesi Adofo-Mensah doesn’t get worked by rival teams this badly again.
