1. Marwin Gonzalez will not be on the Yankees on July 1

After being a regular in the lineup for the Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins, Marwin Gonzalez has been reduced to little more than a utility player over the last few seasons. The pandemic-shortened season of 2020 saw Gonzalez post an OPS of just .606 and last season, Venezuelan bounced between both the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros while hitting just .199.

This season, Gonzalez has taken on the role of utility player with the New York Yankees, but his struggles at the plate still exist. Gonzalez is hitting just a shade above .200 and has just three extra base hits in 2022.

When Miguel Andujar is getting playing time over Marwin Gonzalez, you get the feeling that his time in the Bronx may be coming to an end. When New York sees Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldson return to the lineup, it’s going to be hard for Gonzalez to find a spot in the Yankees lineup.

Marwin Gonzalez’s defensive versatility may help him avoid the dreaded DFA designation, but unless he starts getting it done at the dish, the New York Yankees have better options to fill his role.
