4. Johnny Davis

Davis deserves a ton of credit for everything he did for Wisconsin on both ends of the floor last season. Unfortunately for the 6-foot-4 guard, that production doesn’t change the fact that he lacks the athleticism required to succeed at the next level.

It’s easy to envision a scenario where Davis carves out a long-term role as an energy guard off the bench at the next level. That’s not good enough for a player who is projected by many as a top-10 selection. His lack of shooting prowess from the perimeter really limits his ceiling.

His defensive ability might also be negatively impacted at the next level by his lack of strength and force at the point of attack. Davis is an extremely high effort player but he can be bullied by larger wings at the pro level. His body might allow him to add weight to mitigate that weakness moving forward but there’s no guarantee.

Scouts who have fallen in love with Davis have been seduced by his productivity and effort level. That’s a really good way to overvalue a player who can’t duplicate that type of productivity as a pro. Davis won’t wash out of the league quickly but he’ll never be a difference-maker for a team as a starter.
