Mets: 5 under the radar trade deadline candidates
By Drew Koch
Mets trade candidate: Brandon Drury could platoon at third base.
Mets fans will remember Brandon Drury as a member of New York’s bench mob from a year ago. Drury posted a .783 OPS for the New York Mets in 2021 played six different positions across the diamond.
Drury has flourished as a member of the Cincinnati Reds this season. In 42 games, Drury has already doubled his home run total from a year ago and the 29-year-old also has twice as many doubles as he did in 2021.
If there’s any sort of hole in the Mets’ lineup, it’s likely Eduardo Escobar. New York’s third baseman is the only regular in Buck Showalter’s lineup with an OPS below .700. Adding Drury could give the Mets’ skipper a right-handed bat to fill in at the hot corner on occasion. Drury is hitting .289/.319/.556 off southpaws this season.
The Reds have a lot of depth across their infield and with Brandon Drury under a one-year contract, odds are Cincinnati will be looking to flip the veteran at the trade deadline. The Mets would be wise to consider bringing back one of their own.
