Mets: 5 under the radar trade deadline candidates
By Drew Koch
Mets trade candidate: Daniel Bard is putting up terrific numbers so far.
If Mychal Givens doesn’t wind up in the Big Apple, perhaps the Mets would be happy to add his former teammate Daniel Bard. The Colorado Rockies right-hander is off to a tremendous start in 2022, but his team is not.
Bard has been with the Rockies since 2020 and has 37 saves in 47 opportunities. The Rockies, despite adding former MVP Kris Bryant to the roster this spring, have taken a downward turn and will likely be seller when the trade deadline comes around.
Bard has 24 strikeouts over 19.1 innings and a 2.79 ERA. It also cannot be understated that the 36-year-old is putting up these numbers while pitching at the incredibly hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field.
Daniel Bard is under contract through the remainder of the 2022 season and will be a free agent this winter. Bard may soon emerge from under the radar and become one of the more sought-after relievers when the calendar flips to July. The Mets may want to act fast if they hope to make a trade for the former Tar Heel.
