Alex Wood, San Francisco Giants

In 10 games started, the lefty is 3-5 with 48.1 innings pitched with a 4.66 ERA for the Giants. He does have 50 strikeouts. Wood’s primary pitch is a sinker which has induced about 48% grounders this season. The pitch averages a speedy 92.6 mph with a 20.6-inch vertical drop and 99% active spin.

While Wood does seem off to a slower start than usual, it would be interesting to see what a change in scenery would do for him. It may also be better to have a stronger defense behind him to nab grounders knocked from his off-speed pitches.

St. Louis needs some reliable pitching. The Cardinals could use the veteran lefty and Wood could use the Cardinals behind him. This could be a great fit for both parties.
