LA Angels fire Joe Maddon: Next they should steal Joe Espada from the Astros

Joe Espada’s name always comes up whenever there is a managerial job opened. He has interviewed countless times but never gotten hired for the job. The current bench coach for Dusty Baker with the Astros, Espada is certainly getting plenty of mentoring for a future role as a manager.

Espada is 46 which makes him a nice age to start the managerial portion of his baseball career. He’s older than the players and young enough to potentially stick around for a long time.

Well-respected around the league, it’s only a matter of time before Espada does get hired somewhere. Not only would the Angels be able to land potentially the next hot young manager candidate, they would be able to take away the guy who might be in line to replace Baker when he does officially retire.

Just about the only thing missing from Espada’s resume is a manager job. Aside from his current role as a bench coach, he has also worked as a hitting coach, third base coach, and a special assist to the general manager. That last role came as a member of the New York Yankees.

Nobody may know the game of baseball and all of the jobs better than Espada. After all, he has experienced most of them.
