NBA Draft 2022: 5 potential sleepers to watch
3. Josh Minott
Minott is a classic example of a prospect who isn’t ready to make an immediate impact in the NBA but is determined to leave college anyway. He’s going to require a lot of patience from the team that drafts him but he’s got the sort of upside that could pay off handsomely after a year or two of involvement in a pro system.
Minott’s exceptional length as a 6-foot-8 wing is what really intrigues pro decision-makers. He’s still painfully thin, but he has the sort of frame required to add weight without losing any of his burst. The former Memphis star isn’t a nuclear athlete but he comfortably profiles as above-average in that regard.
Predictably, Minott’s lack of strength limited his effectiveness on the offensive end of the floor in college. He is an adequate jump shooter but he needs to tighten up his stroke at the next level. More importantly, Minott needs to add strength to make sure he can score around the basket to ad his development.
NBA teams armed with a selection in the top half of Round 2 should be salivating at the idea of selecting Minott and sending him to the G-League for a full season. He’s not ready to make an immediate contribution at the NBA level but it’s easy to envision a scenario where he turns into a solid starter in just a few year’s time.
