NBC Sports chairman Pete Bevacqua confirmed that former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will no longer be an analyst for the network after just one year on the job.

Drew Brees was the latest retired NFL quarterback to make the jump to broadcasting, joining NBC Sports. But after one season on the job, there was buzz that he would not return to the network. For those who wanted confirmation regarding Brees’ status with the network, here you go.

NBC Sports chairman Pete Bevacqua confirmed in an interview with the Associated Press that Brees is no longer part of the network after just one year. Bevacqua mentioned that Brees wanted to spend more time with his family.

“The unbelievable busyness of an NFL career and then really not taking a break at all and launching right in with us with both Notre Dame football and the NFL, it was certainly an around-the-clock assignment,” Bevacqua said, h/t AP. “This was definitely a lifestyle choice for him, which is totally understandable.”

Brees made the jump to sports broadcasting at the conclusion of the 2020 season, where his New Orleans Saints were eliminated by the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Later, Brees announced that he was retiring from the NFL after 20 years.

The ex-quarterback worked as an analyst for the Football Night in America program ahead of Sunday Night Football. He also was part of the Notre Dame football broadcast, teaming up alongside Mike Tirico.

As for who will replace Brees, Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported recently that the network was eyeing former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett to replace him. Garrett works for NBC currently as part of its USFL programming.

When NFL and Notre Dame fans tune in for the 2022 season on NBC, you now understand why Brees will be notably absent.
