After missing the start of mandatory minicamp, wide receiver DK Metcalf’s absence was not excused by the Seattle Seahawks.

Wide receivers received huge paydays this offseason, as evidenced by the deals given to Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, AJ Brown and Christian Kirk. One wide receiver who is due for a new contract is DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks, as he is set to hit free agency at the end of the upcoming season.

On Tuesday, June 7, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Metcalf was not in attendance for the first day of mandatory minicamp, citing contract negotiations. Tom Pelissero followed up, saying that the Seahawks are viewing this as an unexcused absence.

Seahawks fine DK Metcalf for unexcused absence from mandatory minicamp

Given that Seattle’s mandatory minicamp lasts three days, you may be wondering just how much Metcalf could be fined in total. The answer to that is near $90,000. Metcalf, as Pelissero notes in his tweet above, is set to make $3.9 million for the upcoming season.

It must be brought up that Metcalf was present for Seattle’s voluntary workouts earlier this year. With this latest update from Rapoport, it is now known that contract discussions have not gone off to plan.

Through his first three seasons with the team, Metcalf recorded 216 receptions for 3,170 yards and 29 touchdowns. He did not miss a single regular-season game.

The deal the Jacksonville Jaguars gave to Kirk earlier this offseason reset the wide receiver market. This is why the likes of Adams, Hill and Brown all received deals over $100 million. The question remains how much Metcalf will earn on his second contract, and if it will be the Seahawks that will be the ones who sign him.
