4. The Nationals could trade Yadiel Hernandez at the deadline.

Few people have heard the name Yadiel Hernandez, but the 34-year-old is putting together a solid 2022 campaign for the Washington Nationals. The left fielder is still under team control through 2026 and is making the league minimum this season.

Hernandez did not make his major league debut until 2020. Last season, the left-handed hitting outfielder appeared in over 100 games for the Nats and hit .273/.329/.413. While those numbers aren’t earth-shattering, any number of teams would love to have a rotational outfielder like Hernandez.

The left fielder is one of those rare hitters with reverse splits. Last season, Hernandez had better success against southpaws than he did versus right-handed pitchers. Hernandez posted an OPS of .861 versus lefties in 2021 and his OPS dipped to .690 against right-handers.

Being that Yadiel Hernandez is is pre-arbitration eligible, the Nats might be able to snag a mid-tier prospect in return. However, Hernandez’s advanced age may work against him. We’ll have to wait and see if the Nats have any takers as the trade deadline nears.
