Braves: 3 catalysts for Atlanta in 10-game winning streak
By John Buhler
Dansby Swanson has filled the Freddie Freeman role, so you can shut up now!
This has been the absolute best part of the Braves’ current winning streak. Dansby Swanson has not played baseball at this elite level since he was Mr. Everything at Vanderbilt. We always knew he was capable of this. Now, the Marietta native is putting it all together this season in front of Braves Country. The girls love him and the boys want to be him. Swanson is 100 percent the man.
He is seeing the ball so well and is making plays at shortstop akin to Andrelton Simmons from yesterday. But the greatest thing is he is not popping up to short on the first pitch. Swanson is driving in runs on the reg and bringing pitching staffs to their knees. He was the No. 1 overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks for a reason. Fate would have it, he is crushing in his contract year.
As far as the dumb idiots who counted the Braves out, go get a taste of some humble crow pie. How could the Braves possibly replace Freddie Freeman? Well, Swanson is doing that with not just his leadership style, but his play all over the diamond. He is playing not only like an All-Star, but could be in MVP consideration if he can sustain this level of play. We always knew he could do this.
The Braves will lose again at some point, but this run has been almost as fun as last postseason.
