2. Shane Lowry is an under-the-radar contender at the 2022 US Open

Will Shane Lowry have the luck of the Irish on his side this week at Brookline? The 2019 British Open champion is flying under the radar, but Lowry is coming off a 10th-place finish at the Canadian Open last week at St. George’s Golf Course in Toronto.

Lowry has been a fierce competitor at the US Open over the years. The 35-year-old has two top 10 finishes at the US Open over his career, including a second-place finish in 2016 at Oakmont Golf Course.

Lowry had the tournament all but won if he’d just held serve heading into Sunday. Lowry owned a commanding four-shot lead over Dustin Johnson and Andrew Landry after shooting a 65 on Saturday.

But the Irishman imploded on Sunday and a final round of 76 ended his hopes of taking home his first-ever major championship. Fortunately, Lowry rebounded in 2019 and took home The Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

Shane Lowry is currently ranked as the 24th-best golfer in the world, but he seems to have flown under the radar this week. Lowry finished in third place at this year’s Masters and finished inside the Top 25 at the PGA Championship. There’s no reason to think he can’t contend at the US Open.
