2 – WR Josh Gordon

The Josh Gordon of years past would’ve been a welcomed addition to the Chiefs receiving core last season, but things never seemed to fully work out for the 31-year-old.

A 2013 Pro Bowl selection, Gordon has missed a whopping three full seasons due to suspensions over the course of his career, including the entirety of the 2020 campaign. After applying for and receiving reinstatement from the league, he latched on with the Chiefs and posted a largely unproductive stretch over 12 games including five receptions in 14 tries with just 2.7 receiving yards per game.

While re-signing Gordon to another one-year contract at the end of the 2021 season was a head-scratcher, the club should not hold on to him and risk stunting the development of younger receivers it’s brought aboard via the draft and free agency.

Over this past offseason, the Chiefs brought aboard both JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling on free agent deals as well as bringing undrafted free-agent Justyn Ross aboard. Not to mention, the club used a second-round pick on exciting youngster Skyy Moore out of Central Michigan.

At this rate, it’d be a mild surprise to see Gordon break camp with the team and making the final 53-man roster. He’s slated for a reduced role in the upcoming season and is highly unlikely to see many snaps if he’s kept around. Time for the Chiefs to move on and let some of the younger guys get a turn.
