2) The Braves could always call up Kramer Robertson as another option to replace Ozzie Albies

The Braves just claimed infielder Kramer Robertson off of waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals a few days prior to Albies’ injury. Eddie Rosario was moved to the 60-day IL to make room for him. The transaction suddenly becomes a whole lot more important with the devastating injury to the club’s starting second baseman.

Robertson has only one major league at-bat when he grounded out late in a blowout Cardinals win and drove in a run. He also made an error in that game but sample size tells us it’s hardly enough to suggest anything about him.

This season in Triple-A, Robertson has combined to hit .224/.389/.365 with 5 home runs in 198 plate appearances. It’s a big drop from the .253/.366/.414 he mustered last year in 466 plate appearances at the same level.

Robertson is a lifetime .247/.360/.367 hitter in the minor leagues with minimal power. He can steal bases at an above-average rate and would probably fit in best as a 26th man on a team’s roster.

Regular starts at second base for Robertson will only happen if Arcia suffers an injury of his own or he becomes completely unplayable. For a third option, the Braves will need to reach outside of the organization. They might not even need to make a trade for one of the better immediate options. Someone most baseball fans already know just became available.
