Rangers who won’t be back: Andrew Copp

Acquired at the trade deadline from the Winnipeg Jets, Andrew Copp likely played himself right out of New York’s price range with his performance in a Rangers uniform.

After spending the first eight or so years of his professional career with the Jets, Copp came over to New York with a draft pick in exchange for center Morgan Barron and three draft picks. Just a month later, Copp recorded the second hat-trick of his career against the Islanders.

In 16 contests in New York, Copp put up 18 points after posting just 35 for the Jets in 56 contests to begin the year. This comes on the heels of a breakout season in 2020-2021 when he finished the year with 39 points in 55 games. Point blank, Copp was on fire with the Rangers and is in-line for a serious payday.

A free agent at year’s end and still just 27 years old (28 on the first day of NHL free agency), there will be a lengthy list of potential suitors in line for his services once he hits free agency for the first time in his career.
