Rays: Manuel Margot carted off field after violent collision with right-field wall
By Mark Powell
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Manuel Margot suffered a significant injury while trying to make a game-saving catch against the Yankees.
Margot went for what would’ve been a possible game-saving catch on a line drive off the bat of Aaron Hicks. Unfortunately for Margot and the Rays, the ball went just over his glove.
Margot slammed into the wall and had to be carted off the field. While the collision didn’t look violent in nature, Kevin Cash stated the injury is a significant one after the game.
Tampa Bay could be without Margot for awhile. As if catching the Yankees wasn’t tough enough, already.
Rays: Manuel Margot suffers serious injury
Margot’s injury was an apparent knee sprain, per the Tampa Bay Times. It’s unknown exactly how much time he will miss, but a trip to the IL appears to be in his near future.
On the season, Margot was slashing .303/.367/.427 with an OPS of .794. Margot was a borderline AL All-Star, and that could now all be for naught.
Margot going down with an injury would be tough enough, but that wasn’t the only bad news the Rays were dealt on Monday night. Kevin Kiermaier is also likely headed to the injured list, per Cash.
