#2 – New York Yankees OF Joey Gallo

While an intradivision trade between the Yankees and Blue Jays is unlikely, it’s a well-known fact that the Bronx Bombers would be more than happy to relieve themselves of Joey Gallo.

Gallo, 28, is arguably the most powerful hitter in the game of baseball today. The problem is that he has significant issues with making contact and strikes out more than anybody else in the league.

Gallo’s light-tower-power hasn’t translated for the Yankees like they were hoping it would when they traded for him, but he has performed well in Toronto as an opposing player, so it’d be interesting to see him do his thing as a Blue Jay.

Typically a corner outfielder, Gallo has two Gold Glove Awards under his belt and is also capable of playing center field, despite his large frame. He also had some first base experience back in 2017 and 2018, so the Blue Jays could utilize him in a variety of roles.

Gallo’s struggles as of late are well-documented, and he is one of the more negatively criticized players in the league. If the Jays were to swing a trade for him, he would not cost them much in the way of prospects since he is a free agent at season’s end. Best-case scenario, he goes off for the club and helps them to the postseason. Worst-case scenario, he struggles and is not brought back once his contract expires.
