2. The quarterback makes the receiver, not the other way around

A national storyline since the Hill trade has been whether or not Mahomes still be elite without his number one option. Well, we can look back in both Mahomes’ history and that of other star quarterbacks to answer this.

Tom Brady’s number one option changed quite often. He went from Troy Brown to Wes Welker to Randy Moss to Deion Branch to Julian Edelman. Would these guys have been good playing for someone else? Probably. Moss is a Hall of Famer. But Edelman, Brown, or Welker probably wouldn’t have been nearly as good playing for someone else.

The same can be said about Rodgers’ targets over the years, such as Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, and more. They all played their best years with Rodgers.

How has Mahomes done without Hill? In 2019, Hill missed the first few games of the season with a collarbone injury. During that span, Mahomes averaged 363 yards passing and threw for eight touchdowns and no interceptions. Time will tell how Mahomes will perform for a whole season without Hill, but all signs point to him being just fine.
