2. San Francisco Giants, C, Patrick Bailey

The possibility is there that the Cubs could land both Patrick Bailey (Giants No. 7 prospect) and the aforementioned Schmitt in a deal around Willson Contreras.

Bailey, a 23-year-old catcher, would give the Cubs another option behind the plate for the foreseeable future. The North Siders do still have Miguel Amaya (No. 13 prospect) in the system but he hasn’t been able to match his offensive production from 2018-19 in the past few seasons.

Through 41 games this year, Bailey also has not produced much at the plate but his offensive track record suggests that a turnaround with the bat is not out of the question, perhaps it’s even likely.

With Joey Bart still the Giants catcher of the future despite his well-noted struggles at the big league level, Bailey could be seen as an expendable piece and one the Giants would be fine parting with in the name of acquiring Contreras’ services from Chicago.
