3 Chiefs breakout candidates ready to shine in 2022
By John Buhler
With Tyreek Hill leaving the team, it is Mecole Hardman’s time to shine in KC
Not to say he has the most pressure on him, but what an opportunity Mecole Hardman has ahead of him. Yes, the Chiefs added Skyy Moore in day two of the draft out of Western Michigan. Yes, the Chiefs signed JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in NFL free agency. But the fact remains Hardman is the most seasoned member of their receiving corps not named Travis Kelce.
Hardman is entering his fourth season in the league out of Georgia. While he has a Pro Bowl nod to his name already, that was more for his returning skills than anything on that Super Bowl 54 championship squad. Though he has improved as a receiver with each passing season, Hardman has to take advantage of the Chiefs situation, especially with this being a contract year for him.
There is a tremendous opportunity for Hardman to make big money on his second contract, regardless of if that big payment is coming from The Hunt Family or not. While he is blessed to remain part of one of the best receiving corps in football, nobody stands a chance to take advantage of Tyreek Hill’s departure to the Miami Dolphins more than the former Georgia star.
Should Hardman approach 1,000 receiving yards, he is going to be making well over eight figures.
