2. How quickly can the new co-coordinators get caught up to speed this fall?

Related to Harbaugh playing flirt with Minnesota or not, Michigan lost its two star coordinators from a season ago. Former defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald returned to the NFL to serve as Harbaugh’s older brother John’s defensive coordinator in Baltimore. As far as Josh Gattis is concerned, he is the new offensive coordinator for Mario Cristobal with the Miami Hurricanes.

Currently, Sherrone Moore and Matt Weiss will serve as co-offensive coordinators, while Steve Clinkscale and Jesse Minter will serve as co-defensive coordinators. Harbaugh clearly trusts all four men in these bigger roles. However, having a pair of co-coordinators on both sides of the ball could create confusion all season long. It would be such a shame if it hurts them in a critical spot…

It will be interesting to see which two coordinators are really in charge as the season progresses.

1. How soon will J.J. McCarthy overtake Cade McNamara at starting quarterback?

Even though former five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy missed all of spring practice, one would think he has a great opportunity ahead of him to overtake the incumbent Cade McNamara on the depth chart. McNamara is certainly good enough to guide the Wolverines to another double-digit win season, but Harbaugh is going to have to trust McCarthy if they want to beat Ohio State again.

Without question, this is one of the most interesting quarterback battles across the entire Power Five. One would think McNamara is leading and should be the Week 1 starter at home vs. Colorado State on Labor Day Weekend. However, McCarthy is too talented to be mostly holding a clipboard for that much longer. If he does not play a lot, he could look to transfer, or he is just not that good.

Michigan seems to have two solid quarterbacks, but it remains to be seen if they have a great one.
