5) MLB Power Rankings: San Diego Padres

Baseball fans tired of the same old results will be thrilled to see how the San Diego Padres are playing this year. They are seriouis contenders to win their first World Series in 2022. They seem poised to stick around.

San Diego is a team built on their starting pitchers with Joe Musgrove leading the way at 8-1 with a 2.12 ERA. They also possess one of the best bullpens around. Every power bat available at the trade deadline should be on their radar.

4) MLB Power Rankings: Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers don’t feel so mighty now that the Padres can tap them on the shoulder. Throughout 2022, they have shown an ability to beat the best but also drop multiple games to scrub teams.

Quite a bit has actually gone wrong for the Dodgers this year. Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy have struggled. Walker Buehler is out with an injury and closer Craig Kimbrel hasn’t been reliable. Depth has kept the Dodgers among the best in baseball. Not much will change anyone’s minds on this fact.

3) MLB Power Rankings: New York Mets

The New York Mets remain the best team in the National League and it’s surprisingly not because of their pitching. They don’t even hit a whole lot of home runs but with Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor in their lineup, the pair are both coming up clutch and taking advantage of every opportunity they get.

Max Scherzer should be on his way back to the mound shortly just in time for them to put a little more distance between them and the Braves again. The Mets are as “all in” as it can get this year. Their early success will not be squandered.

2) MLB Power Rankings: Houston Astros

The Houston Astros have finally broken away from the number four and five spot on the MLB Power Rankings where they have sat for a good month. Tossing a no-hitter against the best team in baseball this weekend while on the road definitely helped them.

This year’s Astros team doesn’t have quite the same star power as others and yet they are right there. Yordan Alvarez is proving to be worth every cent of his recent extension. Justin Verlander may never be allowed to retire. The team name has stayed the same but the contributors on it have changed. The defending American League Champions only have one team left to pass in the MLB Power Rankings.

1) MLB Power Rankings: New York Yankees

Although it was the New York Yankees who suffered through an Astros no-hitter on Saturday, they aren’t budging from the number one spot quite yet. The Yankees are the only team in baseball with 50 wins and it’s going to take a few more days for anyone else to join them.

The Yankees are winning with Aaron Judge leading the offense and a pitching staff built as perfectly as possible. All five of their usual starters are performing well and the bullpen has earned the trust of even the most pessimistic fans. Aaron Boone might have the easiest job in baseball right now. The Yankees, even in the face of a no-hitter against one of their biggest rivals, are as mighty as it gets—but this week it’s a little bit closer between them and the Astros.
