Former Blue Jays players struggling: OF Corey Dickerson

Another player that has shown glimpses of promise in the past (2017 All-Star, 2018 Gold Glove) but has largely fallen short is Corey Dickerson, who joins Steven Matz in the journey from Toronto to St. Louis.

Dickerson, 33, is also similar to Matz in the sense that he’s been on the injured list for quite some time. He was placed on the injured list back on June 4 with a strained calf.

When he’s been healthy this season, Dickerson has looked lost at the plate, hitting just three doubles and two home runs in 38 games and 106 plate appearances. As things currently stand, he has a .194/.245/.286 slash line with an OPS+ of just 54, career-lows in every single category.

Over the course of his ten-year big league career, Dickerson has been a reliable lefty bat that hits righties very well and can play passable defense in both outfield corners. The Cardinals have him under a one-year, $5MM contract so his presence on the roster doesn’t break the bank and the club won’t have a problem letting him go once he hits free agency this offseason.
