2) Former Mets player failing miserably in 2021: Marcus Stroman

Marcus Stroman never quite fit in as a member of the Mets. Brought to the organization in the middle of 2019, he was a sparkplug for them in their second half attempt at earning a playoff spot. He ended up opting out of the 2020 campaign before returning in 2021 with a solid year. Stroman’s overall Mets numbers included a 14-15 record and 3.21 ERA in 44 starts.

Considered one of the better free agent starting pitchers this offseason, he was a logical option for the club to re-sign. However, they seemed to move on rather quickly. Stroman’s strong and often public opinions may have been too much for the Mets front office to continue the relationship.

Instead of staying with the Mets for another run, Stroman finds himself with the rebuilding Chicago Cubs in 2022. It hasn’t been a good year. After 9 starts and 47.1 innings, he is 2-5 with a 5.32 ERA.

Stroman is also on the IL with his most recent start taking place on June 3 when he got knocked around for 9 earned runs and 10 hits in 4 innings of work.

The Cubs certainly seemed to reach by signing him in the first place. They weren’t nearly as ready to compete even if things did go well.

Meanwhile, the Mets own the best record in the National League.
