3 trade targets White Sox must avoid at all costs at the deadline
Like Tommy Pham, Kansas City Royals outfielder Andrew Benintendi could help out the Chicago White Sox in the outfield but he’s not a great fit.
In 72 games, Benintendi is hitting .303/.368/.391 with a wRC+ of 119 so he would help with batting average and on-base percentage, in particular, but he would not be a good fit in some other ways.
First off, he would not provide the power that the White Sox need (.391 slugging percentage). Secondly, he has only played left field and not the other two outfield positions. Left field is a weakness for them but having that outfield versatile would be optimal.
He also is on a team within the division so the trade return (likely prospects) could come back to haunt them in the near future. In addition, Benintendi is a free agent after the end of the 2022 season.
If they were giving up the prospects for multiple years of Benintendi, it would be a bit more palatable but, potentially, giving up prospects that could haunt you for years to come for two months of a rental that is not a great fit for the team anyways means that the White Sox should shy away from Benintendi, who almost certainly will be traded before the trade deadline.
