2) Ryan Weber will not be on the Yankees roster past the trade deadline

Ryan Weber is an out of options relief pitcher whose role for the Yankees right now is to eat up innings. He is serving as their long man temporarily. The job won’t continue past the trade deadline.

In his first appearance for them, Weber went 3.2 innings and gave up a single run on a solo home run. It was a promising Yankees debut. Guys who can get them through multiple frames are important.

Weber was already released by the Yankees but quickly re-signed with them. Now back with the team, the Yankees should be in the market to find something a little bit surer for their bullpen. Preferably, a good long man might be someone who could actually start games for them. Weber seems more like a mop-up man.

This role could end up going to Domingo German or one of the regular Yankees starters this season depending on whether or not the team wants to move one of them into a relief role to limit their innings.

The Yankees mean business this year. That means securing every roster spot they can with the best possible players. Weber and his career 5.22 ERA and status as a journeyman reliever just doesn’t cut it. In targeting some bullpen upgrades, he should be the first to lose his roster spot.
