The Houston Astros have a comfortable lead in the American League West Division, but that doesn’t mean the team will stand pat at the trade deadline. The Astros have a few holes in their lineup, could use an extra starting pitcher, and it’s always good to add a reliever or two before the trade deadline.

If Houston does indeed look to add some players before the August 2nd, they’ll no doubt have to make some subtractions as well. Which three players are unlikely to be on the Houston Astros roster after the trade deadline?

1. Peter Solomon will not be on the Astros roster after the trade deadline.

Peter Solomon was a fourth-round draft pick of the Houston Astros back in 2017. The right-hander has steadily rose up through Houston’s system and made his MLB debut last season as a reliever.

Solomon has six major league appearances, but has yet to make it back to Houston in 2022. Solomon has spent all season at Triple-A Sugarland, and has an ERA north of 5.00. That’s unlikely to get the 25-year-old a promotion anytime soon.

However, Solomon is still viewed favorably in the Astros’ farm system and could be part of an upcoming trade if Houston is looking to acquire major leaguer talent at the deadline. MLB Pipeline ranks Solomon as the Houston Astros sixth-best prospect.

While Peter Solomon may ultimately profile as a reliever, he still has value and is under team control through the 2027 season. Solomon’s plus-curveball and pre-arbitration eligibility will be big selling points when the Astros look to upgrade their roster later this summer.
