Joel Bitonio would shore up a Steelers offensive line full of questions

Speaking of porous offensive lines, that’s an area where the Steelers also have questions coming into the 2022 season, just as they did a year ago. PFF recently released a ranking of all 32 offensive line units in the league coming into the new campaign and Pittsburgh ranked just 30th in that regard. Suffice it to say that’s less than ideal for a team with questions about the quarterbacks on the roster.

Because of that, when considering who the team would most like to poach from the Cleveland Browns, it was actually quite obvious to take someone from one of the better offensive line groups in the NFL, even with stars such as Myles Garrett up for the taking in this exercise. The question was which player from that group.

My first inclination was Jedrick Wills Jr., the starting left tackle in Cleveland. He’s young and has proven he is extremely talented, but injury concerns and the lack of complete résumé to this point left me lukewarm there. Health concerns also turned me away from Jack Conklin at right tackle. And while Wyatt Teller and Nick Harris are good options, Joel Bitonio then became the obvious pick.

Bitonio graded out as the best guard in the league last season and has been a stalwart for several years now. He’s elite in every facet of the game and, just as importantly, has positional versatility to play at either guard spot or even slide outside to tackle in a pinch. For a Steelers offensive line that could use him at just about every spot, this was a no-brainer addition to make for stealing players from divisional rivals.
