Other than Matt Foster, the White Sox currently have three more relievers in their bullpen that have an ERA+ that is worse than league average. One is Vince Velasquez. He struggled more as a starter but as their lone long reliever, he has seen some more success. He’s unlikely to be cut because he is their lone long reliever.

Fellow reliever Joe Kelly has an ERA of 9.49 in 14 games after he has had two IL stints. But considering that he is in the first of a two-year, $17 million deal with a team option for a third year, they are unlikely to get rid of him either. That leaves reliever José Ruiz as the other reliever that could be the odd man out.

His last seven outings have been scoreless but overall on the season, he has a 4.15 ERA in 32 appearances with a 94 ERA+. He is also averaging 5.9 walks per nine innings, which is why his 4.86 FIP suggests that he has actually had some good luck on the season.

José Ruiz does not have any minor league options so he would have to be traded or designated for assignment to not be on the active 26-man roster.
