From the Washington Commanders: Chase Young (defensive end)

With the miniature overhaul the Cowboys receiving corps went through this offseason — Amari Cooper being traded to the Cleveland Browns — Terry McClaurin would be an absolute treasure to steal from the divisional foe Washington Commanders. However, when considering the success of the Dallas defense in 2021, there are still improvements to be made. Particularly on the defensive line.

The two starters currently listed at defensive end on the Cowboys depth chart, Demarcus Lawrence and Dorance Armstrong, combined for only 8.0 sacks last year. Although Lawrence is a proven veteran, it has been four years since his last double-digit sack season; a feat that he has only accomplished twice in his career. That considered, the most sensible player to steal from the Commanders is their most promising young pass rusher, Chase Young.

Although Young’s sophomore campaign in 2021 was cut short due to an ACL injury, he is projected to be back on the field for week 1 of the 2022 season, and surely has sights set on returning to his 2020 form. After his first year in the league, he was named to the Pro Bowl and earned the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. He recorded 7.5 sacks, 12 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles (three recovered by himself), and four pass defenses. All things that the Cowboys could use more of.

Moreover, stealing Chase Young from the Commanders would keep him from coming after Dak Prescott and open up half of the field twice a year.
