2) Brayan Bello will not be on the Red Sox roster past the trade deadline

One of the top Red Sox prospects, Brayan Bello, received a promotion this week to the major leagues. The 23-year-old was 10-4 with a 2.44 ERA this season on the farm. It was a huge effort for a guy who should become a big part of the Red Sox core as soon as next season—maybe even for a little while this year.

Unfortunately, Bello is probably going to get only limited opportunities to pitch for Boston in 2022. He climbed his way onto the roster when Hansel Robles was designated for assignments. With several pitchers on their way back from injuries, he’s an obvious candidate to send back to the minors.

After wobbling through the first month of the season, the Red Sox bullpen stabilized and has actually been one of the better parts of the team this year. The same is true for their rotation which has somehow survived without Chris Sale all year and is currently dealing with the absence of Nathan Eovaldi.

In the bullpen, guys like Austin Davis and John Schreiber have been fantastic. Bello will join this group of pitchers for a little while in July. It won’t be too long, though. The Red Sox have veterans without minor league options on the mend and likely ready to take his roster spot before the trade deadline arrives.
