The San Diego Padres provided an update regarding outfielder Jurickson Profar, who had to be carted off the field due to injury during the team’s July 7 game.

There was a scary incident that occurred on the field during the July 7 game between the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar collided head first into the knee of teammate C.J. Abrams when attempting to catch a fly ball. Profar attempted to walk off the field under his own power, but collapsed. He was later carted off the field, where he gave a thumbs up to the crowd.

Less than a day later, the Padres revealed that Profar had been discharged from the hospital overnight and that he was diagnosed with a concussion and a cervical neck strain.

The team did not provide a timetable for Profar’s return as of this writing.

The incident occurred in the top of the fifth inning when Giants infielder Tommy La Stella hit a fly ball to left field. Profar went for the diving catch, but Abrams was running into the outfield and outstretched his arm to make the catch. That is when Profar’s jaw made contact with Abrams’ knee.

Profar was then placed on a backboard and carted off the field after he attempted to walk off under his own power. He gave the thumbs up to the crowd at Petco Park as he was taken to receive medical attention.

This season, Profar is slashing .242/.343/.397 while recording eight home runs, 38 RBI, 50 runs scored and 75 hits through 83 games.
