Jeff McNeil, Mets 2B

The finalists for the NL’s starting second baseman were Ozzie Albies of the Atlanta Braves and Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Miami Marlins. Albies is sidelined due to suffering a fractured left foot last month and being placed on the 60-day injured list. Chisholm made the starting lineup.

One name that should have been in consideration for the starting job was Jeff McNeil of the New York Mets.

McNeil is among the best hitters at the position, as he is batting .318 and owns an OPS of .823, both of which are the highest among NL second basemen. He also has 82 hits to his credit, which finish only behind Tommy Edman of the St. Louis Cardinals (85) and Cesar Hernandez of the Washington Nationals (84).

Chisholm, on the other hand, has a .254 batting average, an .860 OPS, 14 home runs, and 45 RBI.

McNeil should been named a finalist at minimum.

Kyle Schwarber, Phillies OF

When looking at his .224 batting average, you may be wondering why are we making the case for Kyle Schwarber being a starter in the All-Star Game. Well, did you see how he performed in the month of June?

Much like he did last year with the Washington Nationals, Schwarber had yet another red hot June with the Phillies. The outfielder slashed .272/.385/.680 and recorded 12 home runs, 27 RBI, and 28 hits. That helped him earn the NL Player of the Month award.

Schwarber leads all NL outfielders with 27 home runs and 56 RBI. That should count for something, and that is a spot in the starting outfield.

Jose Ramirez, Guardians 3B

This is no knock on Rafael Devers of the Boston Red Sox, who was named the starting third baseman for the American League. But it can not be glossed over how well Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians has played this season.

Through 78 games, Ramirez slashed .284/.368/.568, all the while posting 16 home runs, 63 RBI, and 83 hits.

The thing is, Devers has posted an incredible .328 batting average, a .979 OPS, 19 home runs, and 106 hits in 80 games.

It just goes to show how stacked the American League All-Star team is where Ramirez is likely to be an option off the bench.
