New York Yankees trade target: Amed Rosario

The Cleveland Guardians have been trying to trade Amed Rosario since about the time he arrived. A former teammate of Syndergaard’s on the Mets, he was one of the pieces sent to Cleveland in the Francisco Lindor trade. He has been overshadowed by the performance of Andres Gimenez, another shortstop Cleveland acquired from New York.

Rosario has been all right with Cleveland. His numbers are closely resembling the .287/.323/.432 he slashed in 2019 with the Mets. A low-walk guy with minimal power but good speed, Rosario has become a greater asset to the Guardians pay to learn how to play the outfield, too.

On the Yankees, Rosario would fit in on their bench and even give them some security over Isiah Kiner-Falefah if he ever got hurt or goes into a prolonged slump. There are two roster spots, outside of an injury, he could conceivably take. One belongs to Gallo. The other would be Marwin Gonzalez as they would essentially provide the Yankees with the same amount of depth. The advantage with Rosario is that he can play shortstop.

Rosario also does have minor league options. At 26, he’s someone to consider as a long-term bench piece. The Yankees, in signing DJ LeMahieu and other versatile players in recent years, could find a way to use him often and effectively.

First, like all of these potential Yankees trade candidates, the Guardians will need to lose faith that the 2022 season will have any meaning.
