2. Yordan Alvarez’s runs created speaks for itself

Alvarez sits second in the American League in runs created, one behind Rafael Devers of the Boston Red Sox with 72.

The calculation for runs created includes all offensive facets of the game: hits, walks and total bases, thereby incorporating hitting for average, power and plate discipline in the calculation.

While Alvarez is second in the American League and third in the MLB, Ohtani is not in the top five in the American League or top 10 in MLB.

Add in the advanced wRC+ metric in which Alvarez sits at 201 — again twice the Major League average — and leads MLB, not just the American League, while Ohtani sits in 16th place in the American League with a wRC+ of 137.

Again, Ohtani’s numbers are good.  Some would say very good at 37% above league average.  They’re just not in the same stratosphere as Alvarez.
