St. Louis Cardinals trade target: Jesse Winker

The Seattle Mariners have a very similar record to the St. Louis Cardinals as they are 45-42 but they are actually tied for the last American League Wild Card spot. They still could be sellers, though. After all, at the trade deadline last year, they were sellers to a team in their division (the Houston Astros) when they traded their closer Kendall Graveman despite having a 55-46 record and just one game out of a playoff spot.

The Cardinals outfield has experienced a lot of injuries. Tyler O’Neill has missed half of the season due to multiple IL stints. Harrison Bader (currently on the IL) and Dylan Carlson have each missed about 20 percent of the season due to injuries. All three of them have also regressed some offensively this season.

Even with trying to make the playoffs, the Mariners could trade outfielder Jesse Winker, especially because they have some highly touted outfield prospects, including Taylor Trammell and Jarred Kelenic who are on the IL or in Triple-A, so Winker could be expendable.

In 79 games, Winker is hitting .226/.341/.337 with six home runs, 33 RBI, and an OPS+ of 100. Winker could also be the club’s DH in 2023 after Albert Pujols retires as he won’t become a free agent until after the 2023 season.
