Eagles news: AJ Brown calls out fake reports about Jalen Hurts

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown called a report about Jalen Hurts struggling in the team’s offseason program “fake.”

After making the playoffs as a Wild Card team last year, the Philadelphia Eagles went all-in to help prepare for what they hope will be a deep playoff run. The one question mark that remains on the team is whether Jalen Hurts is the quarterback that can lead the team to their lofty goals in 2022 and beyond.

This week, there was a report from Derrick Gunn on JAKIB Media Sports’ “Sports Take” podcast that the team is “not very comfortable” with Hurts after the offseason program and pointed out a series of 10 plays in a practice.

Wide receiver AJ Brown seemingly responded to the report in a series of tweets, calling it “fake” while defending Hurts.

Brown will not stand for any slander against Hurts. Neither will offensive tackle Lane Johnson, who responded to Brown’s tweet.

In regards to the 10-play sequence, Gunn said that when speaking with people back in May, they noted that Hurts threw three picks and four incompletions, while getting sacked three times.

Last season, Hurts showed what he could do through the air and on the ground. Hurts completed 61.3-percent of his passes for 3,144 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, while also rushing for 784 yards and 10 touchdowns on 139 carries

As mentioned earlier, the Eagles showed that they were all in to compete for the Super Bowl in the NFC. Their biggest move? Acquiring Brown from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for the No. 18 and 101 picks in this year’s NFL Draft. The Eagles then signed Brown to a four-year, $100 million contract extension.

Hurts has the tools to succeed, including one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and a wide receiver corps led by Brown and DeVonta Smith. It will be up to him to put it all together, as he has one more year remaining on his rookie deal after this upcoming season. That gives the Eagles something to think about throughout the campaign.

Expect their to be much more chatter about Hurts’ performance throughout training camp and preseason games, leading up to Philadelphia’s Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.
