10 best NBA Summer League players of all time
6. Lonzo Ball, 2017 Los Angeles Lakers
When Lonzo Ball started playing in the summer of 2017 no one had neutral opinions on him. Either he was the next great Laker, or he was a fraud hyped up by his dad. Well, in six games in one summer season he left his mark.
Ball still holds the Summer League record for most assists per game, with 9.3. He came the closest anyone every game to averaging a triple-double, putting up 16 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 9.3 assists, with 2.5 steals. He won the 2017 MVP and Summer League Championship, and despite a poor showing from 3 with his wonky shot, he looked like he could quickly become one of the best facilitators and point guards in the league.
Ball is a decent player in the NBA, but he never lived up to the hype. That being said, his 2017 campaign was one of the best individual seasons in summer history, and it can only really be passed by a handful of players.
