10 best NBA Summer League players of all time
4. Randy Foye, 2006 and 2007 Minnesota Timberwolves
Finally, someone who played multiple summer seasons. Randy Foye had a fairly average 11-year career in the League, but in the summer he was absolutely insane.
Foye was never MVP of the Summer League, but he did put up a 21-point average over ten games and played a solid all-around game. The real kicker is he was a 50 percent shooter from deep on 3.4 attempts per game.
I’m not sure what happened. In real NBA games, he got four shots from deep a game over his career, but his percentage was only above 40 percent twice. I guess the lower level of competition helped him have a better jump shot, but the fact that it never really translated to the league at an elite level is puzzling.
Foye has been out of basketball for five years now, but looking back on his remarkable summer seasons it’s surprising he was only a starter for two seasons. The summer showed he had the talent, he just never had the chance to show it off on the big stage.
