3. Joe Maddon

Joe Maddon would be someone that would fit the mold that the White Sox were trying to achieve by getting La Russa.

Maddon is a bit older (68) but he has a lot of managerial experience and is known to relate well to players. He managed the Devil Rays/Rays from 2006 through 2014 and helped bring them up from the laughingstock of baseball to one of the most respected teams in the sport since they found ways to win without having a high payroll. He made it to the playoffs four times with them before he went to the Cubs.

With the Chicago Cubs, he managed them for five seasons and won the 2016 World Series with the team. He then went on to the Angels for the 2020 season but they fired him in May of 2022.

He obviously managed recently but can balance the old school and new school of baseball with managerial experience and good relationships with the players. He also, with managing the Cubs, knows Chicago well and the Chicago media well.
