8) MLB trade deadline candidate: Michael Fulmer

The Detroit Tigers had the kind of offseason we can consider at this point to be a check-swing. They did make some notable additions but none have paid off. They are one of the worst teams in baseball and their best trade candidate is Michael Fulmer.

More than Andrew Chafin, the Tigers have a need to trade Fulmer who is in the last year of his deal. The 2016 Rookie of the Year winner has converted into a relief role where he has been quite excellent for Detroit. Teams that already have a reliable closer but have the need for an improved bullpen would make sense. Maybe it’s the Blue Jays or even the Minnesota Twins that view him as the boost they need.

7) MLB trade deadline candidate: Jose Quintana

Jose Quintana has worked out well for the Pittsburgh Pirates this year. Unfortunately, not much else has. The team gets slapped around often by other clubs and will be looking to capitalize on Quintana’s success by trading him at this year’s deadline.

Quintana would be a good fit for teams that need a long-term answer in the rotation and are missing the parts or have a reluctance to trade higher-ranked prospects. Guessing his destination is a little tougher because he’ll be a runner-up prize to some of the other pitchers swapped at the MLB trade deadline this year. Although unexceptional, he is someone to help stop the bleeding in any depleted rotation.
