As the Kevin Durant trade market continues to perplex, Warriors star Steph Curry is reportedly trying to orchestrate a reunion with rings in mind.

Most things regarding the Kevin Durant trade request and the resulting fervor have been less than tame. It felt like a mad dash among NBA Twitter and fans, as well as reporters, to try and figure out where the 34-year-old was eventually going to get traded. But then came recent reports that the market for Durant wasn’t nearly what the Nets had hoped.

Now, there’s another wrinkle to the saga and it involves a potential return to the Golden State Warriors.

According to NBA insider Ric Bucher, Warriors star Steph Curry, fresh off winning his fourth NBA Championship this past season, has reached out to Durant about the possibility of a reunion in Golden State with the goal being that Curry could surpass LeBron James in terms of career rings.

Now, it should definitely be noted that Bucher’s reporting in recent years has been extremely hit or miss, particularly when it comes to Golden State. As such, this report should be taken with a grain of salt.

Having said that, this isn’t the first we’ve heard of a connection between Durant and the Warriors. Soon after the trade request, the idea of a reunion was floated, as was the fact that players on the roster had reached out to the (as of now) Nets superstar about the possibility.

Given that Golden State just won the title, though, you do have to wonder how a trade would affect the franchise in the immediate future. They would have to mortgage serious assets both in terms of players and draft capital to land Durant, which would undoubtedly mess with the chemistry. At the same time, though, the core of the team is wholly familiar with KD and wouldn’t take much adjustment to hit the ground running again.

As has been the case since the initial request became public, the situation with Kevin Durant remains extremely fluid. However, there’s seemingly more smoke around the Warriors regarding a trade, so that is certainly one destination that can’t be ignored.
