New York Mets first baseman Dominic Smith

The New York Mets are one of the best teams in the National League with a record of 56-34 so they definitely would surprise some people if they trade someone off of their MLB roster. However, they could trade Dominic Smith since he hasn’t had much of a place to play. He also has struggled a bit.

Smith, 27, was one of the best players in the sport in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. For the Mets, he hit .316/.377/.616 with an OPS+ of 168 with 10 home runs and 42 RBI in 50 games.

He regressed a lot in 145 games in 2021 (83 OPS+) and in 57 games (33 starts) in the majors in 2022, he has an OPS+ of 66.

Smith can play first base and play the corner outfield spots, which are two areas of need for the Astros right now since Yuli Gurriel has struggled and Michael Brantley is on the injured list. DH Yordan Álvarez is also on the IL as well.

Perhaps, going to the Astros would be the change of scenery that Smith needs to flourish. Smith was first-time arbitration-eligible this past offseason.
