3. Blue Jays trade target from a surprise seller: Noah Syndergaard

Noah Syndergaard could end up right back with the first organization he ever knew. Although he never pitched for the big league Blue Jays, it was them who originally drafted the man we came to know as “Thor.”

Syndergaard is on a Los Angeles Angels club many expected to be right there in the hunt for at least a wild card. Their fall from grace earlier this year ruined any chance of them making it to the postseason. Syndergaard, another guy on a one-year deal, might be perfect for what the Blue Jays need for their ailing rotation.

Despite the reputation and solid career, it shouldn’t take a whole lot for a team to acquire Syndergaard. The Angels would be wise to trade him for just about anything. He’s unlikely to return or at the very least, would test free agency after the season anyway.

Landing Syndergaard would practically fall into the category of a salary dump because of his performance and the contract. Toronto could find themselves a bit limited as to what they can or cannot due at this year’s trade deadline due to vaccination status. Pulling the trigger on a Syndergaard trade might cost them payroll space more than anything else. Perhaps one trade for him and another for Pederson can help them in two departments rather than giving it all up for one Rodon.
