Cubs fan favorite to trade at the deadline: Ian Happ

With a year of arbitration remaining, Ian Happ doesn’t become a free agent until 2024. Happ, 27, could net a good return for the Cubs at the trade deadline.

A strong left fielder, Happ is hitting .280/.373/.456 with an OPS of .829, 23 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 40 runs scored and 41 RBI. Happ has four defensive runs saved in the outfield with time in left field and center field.

Happ is young and popular amongst a devoted fan base. Fans who love his bat and dynamic play would greatly miss Happ, who would likely get a warm reception by Cubs fans upon his return. The most interesting prospect of trading Happ would be what young talent could be generated in return for his services.

It would have to be an intriguing gamble for the Cubs. He will be an intriguing trade chip we will likely hear more about in the coming days leading up to the Aug. 2 deadline.
