Yankees backup trade targets for Benintendi: Giants outfielder Joc Pederson

The San Francisco Giants are hovering just above .500 so they might not even be sellers at the trade deadline but if they do, Joc Pederson should be a top target for the Yankees.

Pederson is also an All-Star this year after he has hit .252/.332/.517 with 17 home runs, 42 RBI, and an OPS+ of 136 in 78 games.

The left-handed hitter is only contracted through the end of this season so he would be more of a rental but he would be a huge upgrade offensively over Joey Gallo.

Yankees backup trade targets for Benintendi: Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta

Unlike Happ and Pederson, Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta is not an All-Star this year but he is still having a pretty good season.

Peralta, who turns 35 in August, has played in 78 games and he has hit .236/.302/.437 with 11 home runs, 37 RBI, and an OPS+ of 108. He’s on pace for his best offensive season since 2018 when he won a Silver Slugger Award.

Like Pederson, he would just be a rental as he is in the final year of a three-year deal worth $22 million. But since he is a rental and not as good as Happ or Pederson, he would be the cheapest trade option for the Yankees and he would still be a big upgrade over Gallo at the plate while still providing them with a left-handed bat.
