The Yankees don’t trade for Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo

To put the frosting on top of the cake for the Boston Red Sox at the trade deadline, the New York Yankees cannot trade for Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo.

The Yankees already have one of the best starting pitching staffs in baseball as their 3.39 starting pitcher ERA, which is fourth-best in the sport.

They have two starting pitchers that are All-Stars (Gerrit Cole and Nestor Cortes Jr.) and they have some other starters that have pitched very well too.

But Luis Severino is back on the 15-day IL with a lat strain. He will not be throwing for at least two weeks so the Yankees could be more incentivized to trade for Castillo.

On the season, Castillo has made 13 starts and he has a 2.77 ERA (167 ERA+) with a 3.04 FIP, a 1.077 WHIP, and an average of 3.1 walks and 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings. He is also an All-Star for the second time in his career.
