Alabama football: 3 breakout stars for the Crimson Tide in 2022
By John Buhler
Dallas Turner has the distinct pleasure of playing opposite of Will Anderson
While the Alabama offense should thrive with Bryce Young at the peak of his powers, as well as Georgia Tech transfer Jahmyr Gibbs taking over in the backfield, the biggest reason Alabama should win the national championship is its defensive front-seven. It is the same reason Georgia won it all a year ago. While Will Anderson gets all the recognition, keep an eye on Dallas Turner.
Alabama’s linebacking corps is absolutely loaded with Anderson coming off one edge and Turner off the other. Not only that, but they have a pair of seasoned veterans right in the middle of it in Henry To’o To’o and Jaylen Moody. Thus, Alabama should be able to dictate terms defensively, both in pass coverage and run defense. Turner looks to be the biggest beneficiary in this position group.
Ultimately, there is a reason why Turner edges out Brooks and McKinstry as the likeliest breakout star for Alabama. Pressure, as in he faces far less than that of his Crimson Tide counterparts. Brooks and McKinstry will be tasked to be great right away outside the numbers, while Turner can sit back and let the plays develop. Playing opposite of Anderson will pay out in dividends for him.
Alabama may very well have the best linebacking corps in the entire country next football season.
