Juan Soto rumors: The Astros would have to trade SS Jeremy Peña

Rookie Jeremy Peña has surprised a lot of people this season. He had the daunting task of replacing Carlos Correa at shortstop after he had played in just 30 games at the Triple-A level. He has more than done it as he has been one of the best players on the Houston Astros this season.

Peña has hit .263/.310/.454 with an OPS+ of 115 with 13 home runs, 35 RBI, and nine doubles. Defensively, he has had 11 errors but Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) suggest that he has been excellent, as he has had 8 DRS. His 3.1 rWAR is third on the team.

Last season, Peña was Houston’s No. 4 prospect but he is the most proven of the three players on our list and therefore, the most valuable.

However, the Nationals would need a lot more than just Jeremy Peña, Pedro León, and Hunter Brown to get a deal done. In fact, they’d need probably 2-3 more good prospects and/or young, controllable major league players so it would be a very steep cost for the Astros to pay.
